Delaware River

American Shad
(April - June)

Shad, nicknamed Silver Salmon, White Lightning and Poor Man's Salmon are noted for their aerial acrobatics and fast fighting qualities. The male Shad range from 1 - 5 lbs., while the females average from 3 - 8 lbs.

Every year, primarily during the months of April, May and June the American Shad travels from the Atlantic Ocean to the Delaware River to spawn. Due to better public environmental awareness and river cleanup, the Shad's population is steadily increasing. To make your trip enjoyable and exciting, the fishing tackle on board are custom made ultra-lite rods made from fly rod banks. If you want to challenge your angling skills, we carry 4wt. fly rods, for some heart pounding, drag screaming runs. You are welcome to bring your own tackle, especially the ultra-lite fan with 2 lb. or 4 lb. equipment.

Lunch! Can you top this?

Small-Mouth Bass
(June - October)

Walleye
(November - March)

Weather permitting, winter Walleye fishing is best on the Delaware River. Pursuing native walleye in the winter caters more to the experienced fisherman. A great amount of concentration goes into detecting a finicky walleye strike, as well as it requires different techniques of fishing to locate schooled fish.

The average size of the walleye is 2 lbs. to 5 lbs. with larger fish 7 lbs. to 12 lbs. The tackle used on board is 6' - 6 1/2' spinning rods loaded with 8 lb. test line. If you prefer to bring your own rod and reel, you may find that you have a better feel for the subtle hits the walleye are known for.

It is important to dress warmly, for the 18' jet boat has little protection from the elements. So, getting to locations can be a cold ride. It is a good way to get rid of the wintertime blues, when the cabin walls seem to be getting a little bit closer.

Unless prior arrangements are made, Walleye fishing is catch and release.

So come fish the scenic Delaware River. Hobo Charter will work our hardest before and
during your outing to provide you with an enjoyable and successful fishing trip. However,
fishing is still a sport and catches will vary. And remember . . ."you could do worse"

Boat and License

On the Delaware River, there are many places that are very shallow. To accommodate this problem we use a completely outfitted custom made 18' jet boat, built in Seattle, Washington. This boat will take us to areas that are impossible to reach with propeller motors.

The Delaware River now has a reciprocal license law. In other words, a valid Pennsylvania or New Jersey fishing license is required for anyone of the age 16 or older. If you are from another state and are only interested in fishing a short period of time, there is a five-day, non-resident license to purchase locally.
