Delaware River – Shad Fishing

Shad, nicknamed Silver Salmon, White Lightning and Poor Man’s Salmon are noted for their aerial acrobatics and fast fighting qualities. The male Shad range from 1 – 5 lbs., while the females average from 3 – 8 lbs.

American Shad Fishing Season

(April – June)

Every year, primarily during the months of April, May and June the American Shad travels from the Atlantic Ocean to the Delaware River to spawn. Due to better public environmental awareness and river cleanup, the Shad’s population is steadily increasing. To make your trip enjoyable and exciting, the fishing tackle on board are custom made ultra-lite rods made from fly rod banks. If you want to challenge your angling skills, we carry 4wt. fly rods, for some heart pounding, drag screaming runs. You are welcome to bring your own tackle, especially the ultra-lite fan with 2 lb. or 4 lb. equipment.

The Delaware River now has a reciprocal license law. In other words, a valid Pennsylvania or New Jersey fishing license is required for anyone of the age 16 or older. If you are from another state and are only interested in fishing a short period of time, there is a five-day, non-resident license to purchase locally.
